Dear Grace Church Family Members:

Bishop Mark Hollingsworth, Jr. sent an e-mail Sunday evening directing congregations in the Diocese of Ohio to suspend services of public worship until further notice. We’re also to cancel or use technology for all nonessential parish meetings. This of course is the latest response to the Coronavirus pandemic. As you know, the rector; Sr. Warden, Midge Myers; and Jr. Warden, Fred Lundgren spent a good deal of time over the last several days discussing what the best and safest options for Grace Church might be. So instead of the decision to temporarily suspend worship as well as meetings, events, etc. through March 29th, we support and abide by the bishop’s decision to suspend worship, meetings, etc. until further notice. There are 11 counties in Ohio with confirmed cases of COVID-19 Coronavirus, and eight of those counties are in our diocese. As we hear concerns our members have shared, we prefer to be too cautious rather than too careless. Most agree the suspension is a right and safe next move. It’s for the common good and prevents putting members at risk.

Regarding worship, the Book of Common Prayer contains a variety of prayers for use by individuals and families, as well as Morning and Evening Prayer. If you don’t have a BCP at home, it can be accessed by Google or you can call the church office and we’ll see that you get one to use. Some members have already accessed streaming of the Eucharist or Morning Prayer from Episcopal Churches where that’s available.

Please remember to mail in your pledges. Our monthly bills, payroll, and everyday expenses continue in spite of virus concerns, and we rely on your giving to help us keep up to date. We ask you to keep praying for our parish family and the health and well-being of all people. If you’re comfortable with outside contact risks, please let the rector know if you’d like a home pastoral visit for Communion (which will be bread only) or simply to discuss concerns and have a prayer. One couple has graciously volunteered to pick up and deliver needed items for members if they can’t get out. It’s a time for all of us to be kind and helpful to our neighbors, to those in need, and especially to our church family.

May God’s peace and goodness lead us through these anxious times. May Christ our Lord watch over us, protect us, and help us to care for each other.
